ABOUT ABOUT

Boston-based jazz trumpeter & composer brings an array of musical influences & experiences in a special Tuesday night BLU debut! Featuring David Adewumi, Chris Coles, Bobby Selvaggio, Lucas Kadish, Dan Pappalardo, Dan Fernandez.

David began his musical journey when he heard the trumpet on the radio at the age of 9. At that moment the trumpet became the instrument that he was going to play for the rest of his life. During high school he was introduced to the music of Miles Davis, Dave Holland, and Roy Hargrove. From that day, Jazz became David’s primary way of expressing himself.

Through hard work and dedication David was able to attend the Allstate festivals in New Hampshire and this lead to his acceptance to the New England Conservatory of Music. While at the New England Conservatory, David Adewumi got to work with Some of his heroes such as Dave Holland, Jason Moran, Donny McCaslin, and Billy Hart. In 2015 he was 1 of 24 musicians accepted to the Betty Carter Jazz Ahead program, where he was able to perform his compositions in the Kennedy Center. During Jazz Ahead he had the opportunity to work with Carmen Lundy, JD Allen, Eric Revis, Eric Harland, Andre Hayward, and Jason Moran. That same year he was accepted to the Banff Summer Jazz Workshop where he had the opportunity to work with Vijay Iyer, Mark Turner, Ingrid Jensen, Becca Stevens, along with many other amazing jazz musicians on faculty and in the program.

In 2016 David performed in the Panama Jazz Festival alongside Dominique Eade and George Garzone. David is currently finishing up his degree at the New England Conservatory and balancing his role as an artist, teacher, and scholar.
