ABOUT ABOUT

Native New Yorker & reedman extraordinaire brings his warm & expressive sound back to the Rubber City, featuring his familiar swingin' clarinet and introducing us to his latest vintage instrument acquisition – a vintage Conn soprano saxophone! Featuring George Foley, Bill Fuller, Gene Epstein.

Eric Seddon (clarinet and saxophone) has been an active member of the jazz scene in Northeast Ohio for many years, leading bands at top venues such as BLU Jazz+, The Bop Stop (where his band recorded a live CD in 2017), Tri-C JazzFest, the Cleveland Museum of Art, and many other places. Known for the big, warm sound of his vintage instruments and his blues informed, lyrical lines, Seddon has plowed a path from the earliest styles of jazz to the present, an approach he likes to call ‘Everything from Bechet to Today’, while remaining firmly planted in the earthy roots of jazz.

Of his album Eric Seddon’s Hot Club: Bootlegs from the Bop Stop (2018), critic Scott Yanow wrote in The Syncopated Times:

“Seddon, who has a large tone and extroverted style…dominates the music, playing with infectious spirit and creativity within the classic format. His songs, which include a tribute to the late Acker Bilk (‘Goodbye Bowler Hat’), are natural fits for New Orleans jazz bands…”

A native of New York, Eric has performed in the French Quarter of New Orleans, and with Grammy winning artists such as Doc Severinsen, Steve Allen, The Moody Blues, Mark O’Connor, and the Emerson String Quartet.

Tonight he will be introducing a ‘new’ vintage instrument to the Rubber City, playing his newly acquired 1927 Conn Soprano Saxophone at BLU!
