Bio:
Described by All About Jazz as “a musician with a burning desire to explore,” Dr. John Petrucelli is an award-winning saxophonist, composer, and scholar. His musical practice has featured performances and collaborations with legendary members of the jazz tradition including Geri Allen, Victor Lewis, Charles Tolliver, Carl Allen, Sean Jones, Tia Fuller, Delfeayo Marsalis, Terence Blanchard, and Stanley Cowell. John earned his Ph.D. in Music from University of Pittsburgh under the tutelage of internationally renowned pianist Professor Geri Allen while recording three albums: The Way (2015), Mischievous Minx (2017), and Presence (2018). In December of 2021, John was commissioned by Disney Pixar to compose, record, and videotape an original composition, “Coming Home,” in support of the promotion for the hit film SOUL. He is the inaugural James R. ’58 and Susan Neumann Postdoctoral Fellow in Jazz History at Oberlin College & Conservatory.
