ABOUT ABOUT

"Virtuosos on clarinet and saxophone," (New York Times) Peter and Will Anderson are one of the most extraordinary duos in jazz performing today.  Born in Washington, D.C. they began music at age 9 and listened to Charlie Parker, Dexter Gordon, Sonny Rollins, and John Coltrane. Soon after, at age 15, they toured the United Kingdom.  After several years of study in D.C. with Texas-native saxophonist Paul Carr, Peter and Will attended Juilliard in New York City, where they currently reside. Peter and Will’s expertise has made them saxophonists of choice for Jimmy Heath, Wycliffe Gordon, and the Village Vanguard Orchestra.

They’ve headlined at NYC’s Jazz at Lincoln Center, D.C.’s Blues Alley, the New Orleans Jazz Fest, Sarasota FL Jazz Festival, South Carolina’s Jazz Corner, Seattle’s Triple Door, Iowa’s Bix Beiderbecke Festival, the Central Illinois Jazz Festival, Pennsylvania’s Deer Head Inn, Long Island’s Guild Hall, and Alfie in Tokyo.  They’ve led several month-long running jazz concerts at 59E59 Theaters; the most recent, “Le Jazz Hot,” broke box-office sales records and was nominated for a 2014 Drama Desk award.

Peter and Will released The Music of the Soprano Masters in 2013, featuring Bob Wilber.  Their debut recording, Correspondence, features Kenny Barron, and was listed by Vanity Fair magazine in “Four New Releases to Make You Love Jazz.”  Most Recently, Peter and Will are featured on JAZZIZ Magazine’s Winter 2014 CD Soundtrack, and are performing alongside Lou Donaldson at “Highlights in Jazz,” March 19th, 2015 at Tribeca PAC.  Featuring guitarist Alex Wintz, the Anderson’s Trio will tour the Southern U.S. February 2015, and recently released Reed Reflections, which the Washington Post calls “imaginatively unfolding in ways that consistently bring a fresh perspective to classic jazz tunes.”  On March 20th, Peter and Will will perform at Smalls Jazz Club, releasing their new CD, Deja Vu, featuring Albert “Tootie” Heath.

Join us in welcoming the Anderson Brothers in their BLU Jazz+ debut!  This will be a very special performance not to be missed as this red hot group makes their way through Akron on their Spring 2015 US tour!
