ABOUT ABOUT

Chris Hovan's Generations Quartet returns to BLU Jazz on Friday, May 24th!

About:

When jazz bands have occasionally incorporated the word “generations” into their name, the generations described tend to cluster at the far ends of the age spectrum, but Chris Hovan’s band, which includes trumpeter Mark Russo and bassist Taylor Arbogast, are familiar players on the Northeast Ohio scene. With rising star and junior member Chandler Carpenter on guitar, this quartet makes the most out of the diverse experiences of its members while putting their own stamp on familiar jazz repertoire as well as band originals.

A respected photographer, journalist, and musician, Chris Hovan has been involved with music since starting piano lessons at the tender young age of five.  Over the past 25 years, Hovan has played in a variety of Northeast Ohio venues with jazz artists including Rich Holsworth, Josh Smith, Francois Roland, Larry Ross, Jackie Warren, Jeremy Poparad, Bobby Selvaggio, Mark Russo, DANJO Jazz Orchestra, and Just Jazz.  He has also shared the stage with such national artists as Arturo O’Farrill, Brian Lynch, Tony Monaco, Alex Harding, and Frank Lacy.  Hovan presently works as a percussionist with the horn-based ensemble Funkology and plays drums with Bob Niederriter and with the guitar trio Jazz Shepherds.  Hovan’s Generations quartet has performed at Cleveland’s Bop Stop and has appeared several times in Pittsburgh at Con Alma.
