Formidable hard-swinging bassist & composer known to audiences around the country returns to his native Ohio for special homecoming show at BLU! Featuring George DeLancey, Sam Blakeslee, Micah Thomas, Dan Fernandez.

Possessing a powerful sound, authoritative beat, and an intense, unrelenting swing, George DeLancey is known as a formidable musician from his hometown of Cambridge, OH, to the New York City jazz circuit, and to audiences around the country. He has performed as a sideman with noted musicians Wessell “Warmdaddy” Anderson, Winard Harper, Philip Harper, Johnny O’Neal, Willie Jones III, Christian Howes, Richard Galliano, and the Jazz at Lincoln Center All Stars. He is an active composer and bandleader, having led ensembles ranging from small groups to a full big band.
 
As an educator, George’s resume includes Christian Howes’ annual Creative Strings Workshop in Columbus, OH. In addition, he has performed, instructed, and lectured at elementary schooLs, high schooLs, and universities across the country with the Winard Harper Ensemble, Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Jazz for Young People program, and national touring educational ensemble, All Grooves.
 
George has studied classical bass for many years, starting with bassist and Luthier Dr. William Jacque Gray, and Dr. Mark Morton of Texas Tech, former principal bass of the Columbus Symphony. He began intensive study of jazz music under the tutelage of Todd Stoll, former director of the Columbus Youth Jazz Orchestra, and continued his performance and studies at Michigan State University under the great bassist professor, Rodney Whitaker.
