ABOUT ABOUT

Join us as we recreate the magic of the best-selling jazz record of all time: Miles Davis' legendary 1959 album, "Kind of Blue," with an all-star Northeast Ohio band! Featuring Tommy Lehman, Bobby Selvaggio, Chris Coles, Michael Orenstein, Jordan McBride, Zaire Darden.

Preceded by Porgy and Bess & followed by Sketches of Spain, Kind of Blue is the iconic studio album by American jazz trumpet sensation, Miles Davis. It was recorded over two studio sessions in New York City and released by Columbia Records on August 17, 1959.

Regarded by many critics as Davis’ “masterpiece,” jazz’s greatest record, and one of the best albums of all time, its influence on music, including jazz, rock, and classical genres, has led writers to also deem it one of the most influential albums ever recorded. The album was one of fifty recordings chosen in 2002 by the Library of Congress to be added to the National Recording Registry, and in 2003 it was ranked number 12 on Rolling Stone magazine’s list of the 500 greatest albums of all time.

On October 7, 2008, the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) certified it quadruple platinum, indicating sales of at least four million copies.

Stepping into the big shoes of Davis’ signature sextet are Northeast Ohio’s own Tommy Lehman (Miles Davis), Bobby Selvaggio (Cannonball Adderley), Chris Coles (John Coltrane), Michael Orenstein (Bill Evans), Jordan McBride (Paul Chambers), Zaire Darden (Jimmy Cobb). Music from Davis’ popular 1958 album, Milestones, will also be spotlighted in this very special show – get your tickets today!
