ABOUT ABOUT

Nasty beats and pretty chords meet funky-fresh jazz fusion as TWO awesome New York City bands converge upon BLU Jazz+ for a double-bill party not-to-miss!

Join us at BLU for a funk-tastic evening as two of the Big Apple’s hottest high-energy live bands – Phantom Pop (ft. JSWISS) from 7PM-8:15PM and Progger from 9PM-10:15PM – roll into the Rubber City for a double-bill concert event not to be missed!

Progger makes new, exciting, compelling music built on inspiration as diverse as D’Angelo, Herbie Hancock, Parliament/Funkadelic, and Soundgarden. After two critically and publicly acclaimed independently-released albums and numerous performances with music luminaries like Snarky Puppy and the Funky Knuckles, the group’s third studio release, “Scattering,” was released in April 2016 on Ropeadope Records.

Phantom Pop is an instrumental group out of Brooklyn, NY that combines elements of funk, soul, and R&B with the improvisation of jazz to create their own sound. Formed by Dave Lowenthal (electric bass), the band consists of Josh Schusterman on drums, Noah MacNeil on keyboards, Matt Giella on trumpet, and Atsushi Ouchi on saxophone.

An adept lyricist who embodies the essence of hip hop with an infusion of soul, JSWISS has shared the stage with the likes of Rakim, The Roots, Big K.R.I.T., 2 Chainz and Asher Roth, performed at the legendary Apollo Theatre in Harlem, the famed Preservation Hall in New Orleans, and SOBs in Manhattan, and worked with the likes of Kooley High, Brown Bag AllStars and soul singers Maya Azucena and Karen Bernod.

Get your tickets early as both of these groups make a rare appearance in Northeast Ohio right here at BLU!
