ABOUT ABOUT

Saturday, July 27th, Andrew Karkosiak's Jazz Trio

Cleveland native and emerging jazz-guitarist/composer Andrew Karkosiak brings with him creative arrangements of popular songs, jazz standards, and stylistically-diverse original compositions. He will be joined by Ian Kinnaman on bass, and Jeremey McCabe on drums for a special Saturday evening performance

About the band:

Guitarist, composer, and Cleveland native Andrew Karkosiak is an emerging musician in the Northeast Ohio music scene. After being a member of Great Day, a short-lived quartet which performed the music of Thelonious Monk and Carmen Castaldi, he began to take on more work as a composer. Andrew then studied with Dr. David Morgan at Youngstown State University where he graduated with an M.M. degree, and while there, performed compositions and arrangements in masterclasses with acclaimed jazz artists/composers such as Vijay Iyer and Bill Frisell.

In the past, Andrew has studied with jazz guitarist’s Dan Wilson and Dan Bruce, and was a member of Ernie Krivda’s Jazz Workshop for Tri-C’s jazz-studies program. He remains active still as a performer and supporter of NE Ohio’s music community. As a composer, his string quartet Framework, dedicated to the string quartet Allure, received its first performance recently as part of the Idabelle Firestone Concert Series.

Bassist, educator, composer, and Maryland native Ian Kinnaman is an emerging musician in the NE Ohio music scene. After graduating from Youngstown State University where he studied bass with Dr. David Morgan, Ian moved to Cleveland where he has shared the stage with musicians such as Jamey Haddad, Dan Bruce, Dominick Farinacci, Amanda Powell, and Jack Schantz. He teaches bass at the College of Wooster and is an active sideman and member of Anthony Taddeo’s Alla Boara.

Jeremy McCabe is a drummer and songwriter based in Cleveland, Ohio. Coming up learning from local greats such as Paul Samuels, Carmen Castaldi, Anthony Taddeo, John Stebal, and others, Jeremy’s passion for music led him to Oberlin Conservatory, where he studied with Billy Hart and Jamey Haddad and graduated in 2021. Since then, he has been an active sideman on the Cleveland jazz scene, sharing the stage with the likes of Dan Bruce, Bryan Kennard, Aidan Plank, Kevin Robert Martinez, and many more.

Jeremy’s musical style is informed by his omnivorous listening habits, drawing from a wide variety of genres and traditions, including jazz fusion, post-bop, psych, prog, indie, shoegaze, the avant-garde, and countless others. Inspired by genre-bending trailblazers like Frank Zappa, Keith Jarrett, John McLaughlin, and Fred Frith, he strives to combine his stylistic influences in ways both both familiar and exploratory across all of his musical endeavors. His diverse musical interests have made Jeremy equally at home backing celebrated R&B vocalist Chantae Cann as appearing in groups that have shared bills with experimental music legends such as Greg Saunier (Deerhoof) and Aaron Dilloway.
