ABOUT ABOUT

Join us for the debut of jazz singer, Corinne Mammana, as we welcome in the holiday season at Blu Jazz!

"Mammana applies her superb technique gracefully, carefully, tastefully and intelligently...she wisely lets the melody and lyrics speak for themselves"

— JazzTimes

Praised by All About Jazz for her “sheer genius” arrangements and JazzTimes for “superb technique”, American jazz singer, songwriter, arranger, recording artist and bandleader Corinne Mammana is passionate about preserving the music of the past while placing her own personal spin on the American Songbook, as well as popular tunes from the past few decades. With creative arrangements sung in a sophisticated and soothing style, fans have described Mammana’s voice as a cross between Norah Jones, Jane Monheit and Stacey Kent. Mammana has released two albums— Under an August Moon (2016 EP) and Yes, No, Next (2020) which both received international praise.

Mammana’s much anticipated first full-length, self-produced album Yes, No, Next was released in April 2020 featuring legendary bassist Gene Perla, world renowned jazz drummer Ian Froman, Sean Gough on piano and Lorenzo Branca on flute and harmonica. The album includes an eclectic mix of reimagined standards, originals, rock and Broadway. JazzCorner wrote “Corinne Mammana's new album is evocative, fresh. She is able to approach songs from a diverse variety of genres and infuse them with her honeyed vocals and creative energy.”

Mammana said, “‘Yes, No, Next’” is the title track off the album. Ramsey McLean, the songwriter, sent this song to me about 3 years ago. I fell in love with this song and immediately knew I wanted to record it on my next album. This song was the catalyst behind the creation of the entire album. It represents the wonderful gift we have every day—the choice, the opportunity to start anew—to be the person we want to be in our lives and perhaps change our path—to decide yes, no or next. My hope is to inspire this in my listeners through this music. Gene Perla is an arranging genius so I knew I wanted him on the project to help fine-tune the songs. I had the big picture ideas behind the arrangements. Gene added the finishing touches and brought that extra shine to each piece. With all his recording experience, he also mentored me throughout the process. He helped me make some big decisions, like choosing to record at the lovely Red Rock Recording Studio with Kent Heckman. It was really an honor to have him on the project.”

Her debut EP Under an August Moon (2016) received national praise and an interview with AXS who said, “Mammana loves the music of the past, but she just might be the voice of the future.” The EP celebrates the Great American Songbook via a four-song collection of jazz standards from the 40s and 50s, as well as contemporary songs.

In 2019 Mammana opened for Grammy nominated jazz singer Cyrille Aimée at the Musikfest Café. In New York City, Mammana has performed at Birdland Jazz Club, the Metropolitan Room and the Duplex Cabaret Theatre. She has also performed at Philadelphiaʼs Chrisʼ Jazz Cafe, the legendary Deer Head Inn, Musikfest and countless other clubs and concert halls on the East Coast. Self-produced concerts include Jazz in the Christmas City, The Golden Age of Radio, and The Norah Jones Songbook Concert—all to sold-out audiences.

Originally from suburbia Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Mammana holds a Bachelor of Music degree from James Madison University where she was classically trained in voice. She performed in professional theaters for many years before discovering her passion for jazz music. In addition to her busy performance and recording schedule, Mammana is the owner of Mammana Music Studio in eastern Pennsylvania where she teaches private and piano lessons to children and adults.
