ABOUT ABOUT

Join us at BLU Jazz+ and celebrate the "High-Priestess of Soul" on what would be her 80th birthday as four vocal powerhouses – Tracey Nguma, Dorianne Denard, Ceco Selinas and Afi Scruggs – take the stage with a very special tribute show!

“Four Women: Interpretations of Nina Simone” – a powerful tribute to the late, great singer/songwriter and activist, is a spellbinding performance brought to you by Akron/Cleveland vocal powerhouses Tracey Nguma, Dorianne Denard, Ceco Selinas and Afi Scruggs.

Tracey Nguma, singer/songwriter/band manager, currently performs with Umojah Nation reggae band, playing in the Akron/Cleveland/Kent area for over 16 years! Tracey vision to bring these chosen women together has proven successful, leading to 3 sell-out shows with standing room only.

Dorianne Denard, a much-loved local jazz singer, made her mark in the scene as a songstress known to cross over genre’s with her heartfelt voice in the now defunct jazz band, Sausalito. She currently continues to perform with a motley crue of jazz musicians known as Dorianne Denard and Friends in the Akron/Cleveland/Kent area.

Ceco Selinas, a vocalist and professional African dancer, currently leads dance classes in the Cleveland area. She also shares the stage with Tracey as a backup vocalist for Umojah Nation reggae band, in addition to the One world Tribe out of Pennsylvania. She also performs with the Cleveland acapella group, Hue People.

Afi Scruggs, singer/bassist/keyboardist, is a force to be reckoned with. Not only has she laid down the low end on bass for some of Cleveland’s finest musicians, she currently plays throughout Cleveland doing solo acts on the keys or in a trio known as Afi plays bass.
