Bio:
John Fedchock’s illustrious career in jazz has spanned over four decades. Since his emergence on the scene in 1980, Fedchock has established himself as a world-class trombone soloist, a heralded bandleader, and a Grammy-nominated arranger. An in-demand performer and writer in New York City, his multifaceted talents have led him to become one of NYC’s premier jazz artists. Regarded as one of the most perceptive and versatile trombonists on the scene today, Fedchock’s reputation as a soloist is widely acknowledged, leading Hot House NYC magazine to label him as “one of the living masters of his instrument”.
Fedchock began his career when he joined the legendary Woody Herman Orchestra in 1980, touring for seven years during which time he was chief arranger and a featured soloist. Herman said of Fedchock, “He’s my right hand man. Everything I ask of John he accomplishes, and I ask a lot. He’s a major talent.” Fedchock has also toured internationally with T.S. Monk, Gerry Mulligan, Louie Bellson, Jon Faddis, Manhattan Jazz Orchestra, and the Carnegie Hall Jazz Band. As a solo artist, he appears throughout the United States and abroad performing as trombonist/composer/conductor. His most recent live quartet recordings, “Fluidity” and “Reminiscence” gained considerable attention from jazz critics and extensive presence on national jazz radio.
Born in Cleveland, Fedchock is a graduate of The Ohio State University and has firmly maintained his Ohio roots. His accompanying rhythm section for this special event will be comprised of area stalwarts, Jackie Warren (piano), Aidan Plank (bass) and Jim Rupp (drums), all acclaimed members of the Cleveland Jazz Orchestra.
