Join us in the BLU Zone as we celebrate the 4th Annual Rubber City Jazz & Blues Festival featuring performances by Dan Wilson w/ "Voices", Theron Brown Trio & a special set by the Open Tone Music Academy students!

The Rubber City Jazz & Blues Festival tradition continues with high-energy musical performances on several stages throughout Downtown Akron (BLU Jazz+, Musica, Akron-Summit County Public Library & the Akron Civic Theatre) all weekend long to benefit youth music education programming for the children of the future!

Featuring performances by Akron’s own Theron Brown Music Trio (8PM), Dan Wilson & “Voices” (9:00PM) and a special set by the Open Tone Music students (7:30PM)!

THERON BROWN TRIO

As an artist, the musicians that Theron has performed with have been many and varied, and across all genres. Theron has played with musicians such as The Cleveland Orchestra, Dan Wilson, Sean Jones, The Huntertones (formerly DW6), The Jazz Heritage Orchestra, The Cleveland Jazz Orchestra, The Glenn Miller Orchestra, The Bad Plus Band, Chris Coles, Chris Anderson, Greg Banasak, The Sam Blakeslee Large Ensemble, Javon Jackson, Snarky Puppy, Donny McCasslin, Peter White, Walter Beasley, Christian McBride, Ken Peplowski, Gary Smulyan, Warren Wolf, The Admirables, Nathan Davis, and Bobby Selvaggio. Theron’s worldwide performances, particularly those with trios, quartets, and big bands, brought him recognition from numerous places all around the world.

DAN WILSON W/ “VOICES”

Dan Wilson’s “Voices” project came about from a deep love of soul music that began his early years. Wanting to showcase the immense local talent in the Northeast Ohio area, Dan assembled 3 phenomenal vocalists for the band, Jessica Yafanaro, Tommy Lehman, and Durrell Legrair. The rhythm section includes Dave Throckmorton, & Kip Reed.

Dan has been touring nationally and internationally with three-time Grammy nominated jazz organ legend, Joey DeFrancesco. Dan’s composition, “Who Shot John” was featured on Joey’s 2015 release, “Trip Mode.” Dan received a Grammy nomination for work on “Project Freedom,” by Joey Defrancesco & The People, released in 2017. Dan can also be heard on Van Morrison’s “You’re Driving Me Crazy,” and “The Prophet Speaks.” In April of 2017, Dan joined legendary bassist Christian Mcbride’s “Tip City.” In June of 2019, Dan recorded an album for Mack Avenue Records entitled “Vessels of Wood and Earth,” which featured Jeff “Tain” Watts, Christian Sands, Marco Panascia, and Joy Brown. The album is to be released during the fall of 2019.

About Open Tone Music

In 2010, Open Tone Music began with the goal to:

• Make music accessible to the community
• Provide music education both inside and outside the classroom for youth and adults
• Offer music performance which are accessible to the public of all ages
• Offer opportunity for musicians in training to rehearse and perform with professionals
• Provide education and access in the business of making music

Since its creation, Open Tone Music has been able to serve thousands of youth in the Northern Ohio area with the help of fiscal agents, community partners and individual donors.
